Widney Leisure Limited, now based in Bromsgrove, was formed in 1983 in Redditch as
a manufacturing company supplying gas fires to the static holiday home industry. The
majority of the business being "OE" fit. Production commenced with a low cost radiant fire. Initially Widney had difficulty entering the market because a major heater manufacturer was already heavily entrenched, albeit their products were not ideally suited to their customers' requirements in terms of cost and specification. Volumes increased gradually to start with, but in the third and fourth years of trading the main competitor withdrew from the market due to the competitive edge that Widney had. |
During 1994 Carver plc acquired Widney. In that same year the company was accredited
BS 5750 part 2 (Now ISO9002 part 2). Since that acquisition Widney has consolidated its market by improving its product range, adding Electric fires, acquiring minor competitors and by the introduction of value added design.
